Case Study: Compass DSA

Compass was a very interesting project, the requirement was for a new website to aid their sales team to search and sell products to retailers in the limited time they have in front of them. There was a great deal of focus around usability in this project on two levels, for the sales reps themselves and for the site administrator.

The sales reps, as they have limited time in front of their retailers needed to be able to quickly filter, view and browse the latest books in a minimal amount of clicks; this also included building up baskets of their products so they can ultimately place orders for the books. We achieved this by segmenting the website into months so sales reps can see the latest books available to buy and adding tactically placed buttons such as next and previous buttons on product pages to ensure ease of use when browsing categories.

For the site administrator, a way to upload books quickly and efficiently with just a single database was the central factor to success and time saving. We built a custom upload system to cater for the clients current databases and added several conditions such as publish date to ensure only the most relevant books actually appear on the website.
